Senior management is asking if your existing environmental permits to operate will allow for the new product to be manufactured at your facility? To find the answer you go to the operations and maintenance section of the manual where you will easily find the section on air, water, and waste permits in place at your facility. The operations and maintenance section will identify the appendix for each operating permit. Further, the appendices will identify where the permit may be found within your facility. With the permits in hand, you can identify the limits for air emissions, water discharges, and waste generation, assuming you have such permits. As a result, you can answer senior management questions. Without the manual giving guidance and with the responsible EHS person at a conference it is unlikely that the question would be answered quickly, and might require the EHS person to leave the conference and return to the plant.
